Hello Gender Reveal Team!

My name is Mia Glenn-Schuster and I am a queer sound designer, editor, and producer currently based out of Los Angeles, California.

I’ve picked out a few of my past projects that I think best showcase what I could bring to Gender Reveal on both a personal and professional level, but feel free to take a look at some of my other work shown in my general portfolio above.

For a wider view of my past experience, check out my resume here.

dorothy’s friends theater company

Named for the euphemism “Friend of Dorothy,” dorothy’s friends theater company (dftc) is an independent student production company I co-founded during my time at the University of Southern California. dftc’s mission is to put positive queer stories in the spotlight. During my senior year at USC I worked as the Artistic Director, curating a season that consisted of a full length student written play, a queer cabaret (bottom right), a variety show, a shadow cast of Rocky Horror Picture Show (a fundraiser to benefit the Massman Theater) and a Dungeons and Dragons Module.

Other productions I worked on with dftc included a production of She Kills Monsters (above) complete with a live band and ten foot tall five headed dragon and a talkback celebrating Blackness in the arts featuring, among others, Alexandra Billings and Roger Q. Mason (below). We also wrote a 20 page grant application to Visions and Voices (V&V) which secured us the funding to mount the West Coast Collegiate Premier of Fun Home (see left) as the first ever student produced V&V event.

This is a project that is incredibly personal for me. Produced as a project with dftc, we interviewed queer students from throughout the theater community on campus and compiled it into a story that is meant to showcase the beauty of queer connection that comes with the intense honesty and venerability of late nights.

(i'll) tell your story invites you to join the experience of the late night talking, laughing, and sharing between queer friends.Because this project was about the importance of community I produced a launch event that encouraged other queer artists to gather around the fire and share their own stories during an evening of queer musical performance, s’mores, and themed refreshments (my favorite was the Dyke to Watch Out For, a sour cherry mezcal margarita with a spicy chili salt rim).

Foodimals and Rock’em Sock’em Robots

In 2020 I worked for Sony Entertainment Pictures as a Sound Designer and Dialogue editor for voice games. Working on these projects taught me a lot about voice editing, designing for restrictive playbacks systems (the Amazon Echo), and that I would much rather work on independent projects that I’m passionate about than larger, more established ones.

Gender Reveal is a long running production with an avid community of listeners. My experience working with brand representatives from Mattel and the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs franchise has taught me a lot about maintaining an established sonic brand. This experience would allow me to easily adjust my editing style to fit within the pre-established audio aesthetic of the Gender Reveal podcast. Check out the games below.
